One important new feature is, that YAM is supports now an unlimited number of SMTP servers and integrate a multi-identity mechanism that allows to configure more than one email address which is quite common today.

The following is a brief (not complete) list of fixes integrated in the 2.8 release:

updated translations for czech, french, german, italian, swedish, spanish, turkish and english-british language.

integration of online documentation system and removal of obsolete amigaguides, see http://docs.yam.ch/

general performance improvements and general bug fixing.

moved CC and BCC as well as Reply-To: address field from separate "Options" tab to the first page of the write window and made it user-configurable.

integrated a multi-identity system which allows to define an unlimited number of identities and link SMTP servers to each identity so that different settings per identity are possible (including different signatures).

implemented unlimited signature support through new multi-identity system integrated in YAM.

multiple and unlimited SMTP-Server support. Now users can define any number of SMTP servers and link them to the new identity management system.

implemented new "Drafts" folder system to allow to put autosave files as well as storing mails on hold into a separate folder commonly used in other mail clients.

All Themes, Certificates, user configurable Spamfilters and the Gallery directory are now per default stored in a PROGDIR:Resources sub directory to not clutter the PROGDIR: directory too much. In future more and more user configurable setting directories will move there, too.

YAM will now trust certain external SPAM filter engines (e.g. Spamassassin) when retrieving external emails and trying to identify SPAM. Own external spam filter rules can now be configured in PROGDIR:Resources/Spamfilters if necessary.

Added full SSL certificate authentication support. If connecting to an SSL secured mail server (POP3/SMTP) YAM will now verify the certificate and compare it against official certificate chains. If a certificate is identified to be not trustable a warning will be presented to the user

autosave mails now contain receivers and sender information so that upon recovering those mails the full entered information is presented again.

Full support for the new "Mail-Followup-To:" and "Mail-Reply-To:" header fields which are commonly used for mailing lists.

Sent mails can now be replied as well.

implemented own mail download intervals per POP3 server along with individual mail size limits per POP3 server.

implemented new arexx command to search for messages via message ID.

added a string gadget to the "no subject warning requester" so that a missing subject can be immediately be added.

improved Daylight Saving recognition and removed irritating DST switching warnings for systems known to behave correctly when DST are switched.

large restructuring of the configuration GUI to match new identity and multiple SMTP feature. In addition, things belonging to the Look&Feel of the GUI had been moved to the corresponding config item.

fixed certain PGP related problems causing signature check failures.

fixed a bunch of problems related to the autocompletion features in the recipient string objects of the write window.

lots of other improvement we don't remember right now (keep in mind: one year of development was put into YAM 2.8!)

As the 2.8 release fixes some important issues and brings some very nice features and speed improvements, every YAM user is highly adviced to update to the 2.8 version as soon as possible.

Have lots of fun with this new release!

If you encounter any problems then don't hesitate to report any issue either here or in YAM's bug tracker at

http://bugs.yam.ch/.

Happy yamming...

Your YAM development team
Topic JosDuchIt Mon, 21 Jan 2013 14:45:30 GMT Reply #377 to topic #98 - YAM 2.8 released! http://yam.ch/discussion/message/377#message_377 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/377#message_377
I tried to list the tickets according to priority as an exercice

(Severity indicated S-Mj major S-Mn minro S-Tr trivial)

High: 2

#57 S-Mj mail list => threaded listtree
#284 S-Mn Sorting options/GUI layout not saved on exit

Normal: 16

#30 S-Mj Avoid folder corruption by updating more often
#50 S-Mj Allow duplicate folder name creation and use
#74 S-Mj Implement format=flowed support[[BR]] #107 S-Mj ARexx - MAILIMPORT / MAILEXPORT : return FILENAME
#122 S-Mj User-definable toolbars
#124 S-Mj Rework and simplification of the mailing-list feature
#126 S-Mj HTML read mail support
#130 S-Mj S/MIME support
#132 S-Mj Implement a stronger password encryption mechanisms
#222 S-Tr Move folder directories in own "folders" subdirectory, rename spam folder to "Junk"
#311 S-Mj Use AttachmentImage/Object in write window
#317 S-Mj Show attachment reminders upon keyword matches
#318 S-Mj Add "Quick-Reply" feature to read window (readmailgroup)
#319 S-Mj Complete overhaul of global configuration implementation
#320 S-Mn Remove possibility to set own folder path in each folder
#321 S-Mn Change IdentityChooser to allow keyboard searches/usage in write window

Undecided: 2
#103 S-Mj Un-spam" mail when d&d'ed out of spam-folder
#230 S-Mj Add option for queued download

All the rest normal
Message JosDuchIt Mon, 21 Jan 2013 14:02:41 GMT Reply #376 to topic #98 - YAM 2.8 released! http://yam.ch/discussion/message/376#message_376 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/376#message_376
Roadmap:

Thanks

As to me the most urgent improvement would be the arexx attachment commands.

I did write (in Gui4Cli- whose source i am trying to maintain painfully)) a program which reads in the message and parses its attachments, gives me the opportunity to delete the ones i dont'want to keep, rewrites the message and restores the original date. With the arexx commands envisioned, this would be much simpler.

Adding script menus to read & write windows would therfor be great too: i would be able to parse & delete attachement immediately, maybe storing some elsewhere & deleting the message altogether. Arexx ports & application commands are the real Amiga spirit . YAM shines here allready, but i'll applaud to the realisation of the above.

Keep the spirit.

All the best

Joseph
Message damato Sun, 20 Jan 2013 19:53:48 GMT Reply #375 to topic #98 - YAM 2.8 released! http://yam.ch/discussion/message/375#message_375 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/375#message_375

A big thank you to the team for all the hard work. Please read the SSL warning message of your browser carefully. The reason why your browser is popping up a warning when using https://yam.ch/ for authentication is, that we don't have the money for buying a commercial SSL certificate which matches our domain name (yam.ch). Therefore we are using a self-signed certificate instead which your browser identifies and warns you about. However, this doesn't mean your passwords are transfered less secure when logging into yam.ch. But we had the possibility to either disable SSL encryption all togehter and transfer the passwords completly unsecured or use a self-signed SSL certificate which provides secure passwords, but pops up a warning as this is no commerically valid certificate.

Question: What are the ambitions for 2.9 ?

You mean the plans? have a look at the current roadmap:

http://yam.ch/roadmap

best regards, jens
Message JosDuchIt Sun, 20 Jan 2013 17:04:11 GMT Reply #374 to topic #98 - YAM 2.8 released! http://yam.ch/discussion/message/374#message_374 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/374#message_374
A big thank you to the team for all the hard work.
