From YAM2.6 to YAM 2.8 IIRC.

What I am simply trying to do is set up a remote filter so certain mails are left on the server. But I have tried everything and I cannot get it to work! This has got me stumped and it's really annoying. I don't know if it's a bug or I haven't figured out what right buttons to press.

I've set up a set of normal filters so they work. I've also put the remote filter at the top of the chain to no avail. I've read the docs on filters to no avail. Perhaps an example would suffice?

To be specific the mails I wish to filter out are from address: "DealsDirect" <news@…>

I've used Address option with the email address. No go. Should I include the brackets?

I've used Name option and tried DealsDirect as well as #?Deals#?. No go.

The "Search in" field confused me at first and I was using IN as I thought it meant IN the string. It didn't say IN FILE. So I changed it to "=" and did more testing. I've also selected Substring search and tried AmigaDOS patterns to no avail.

Don't download is set and I also tried Terrminate just in case. No go.

I've tried everything I can think of. how on earth do you add a remote filter in YAM!?!?!? :-??????
Topic hypex Mon, 04 Mar 2013 14:03:55 GMT Reply #381 to topic #103 - I can't figure out how to add a remote filter! :-? http://yam.ch/discussion/message/381#message_381 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/381#message_381

Valid addresses never include the brackets. Perhaps I should file an enhancment request to give a warning when certain features won't work because the master on switch isn't activated?

I enabled it now but it gave me even more trouble. However it works, it caused YAM to delay forever reading off the server, but that's not what I want. I want it to deselect those mails I put in the remote filter the same as it does by only downloading files under a certain size. Can it work like this? So when it grabs an new mail list it can apply it to the preview window.

So I pressed Abort and YAM reported an error from the mail server not understanding a QUIT command with some unreadable text returned.

YAM then crashed, became unusable and I had to reboot.

Looks like I have to file YABR. This is no longer a global setting but an account based setting since YAM 2.7. This means you can choose for which accounts remote filters will be applied in case you have multiple accounts and don't want remote filters to be applied for a specific account.
Message
