(I then create a Yam directory on another location.)

Unfortunately, before choosing QUIT, Yam-dev already made changes to the .config file. It turns now Yam (my current 2.8p1 version) does not load any messages at all.

Is there a way I can recover my Incoming and Sent folder with the stable 2.8p1

EDIT: Solved (sorry). I just had to copy out the folders from the Folders directory.
Topic AmigaPhil Sun, 01 Sep 2013 19:02:41 GMT Reply #397 to topic #107 - Nightly build (2.9dev) and folders http://yam.ch/discussion/message/397#message397 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/397#message397

I don't really see what you solved, and if this is the same problem.

My main Yam installation is the stable 2.8p1, because my messages are less exposed to any problem that might happen with the nightly builds.

After having tried a nightly build from inside my current 2.8p1 directory, I was suprised to see no messages at all when starting Yam 2.8p1.

What I solved is to copy up the folders outside the /folders directory, and then recovered all the messages as they were before the nightly build test.

I recommend to use 2 separate locations for Yam; one for keeping safe your valuable messages, one for testing purposes. If you mainly use the nightly builds, then manually copy from times to times your [2.9dev]/folders/ folders to your [2.8p1]/ directory.*

(* or where ever your <maildir> paths point to.)
Message thboeckel Sun, 01 Sep 2013 18:21:05 GMT Reply #396 to topic #107 - Nightly build (2.9dev) and folders http://yam.ch/discussion/message/396#message396 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/396#message396

When starting 2.8p1 it seems to recreate the same empty folders at the previous place (using th .folders info.

Yes, that is true, because the .folders file contains folder pathes relative to <MAILDIR> in 2.8p1, but relative to <MAILDIR>/folders in 2.9. Thus to make YAM 2.8p1 use the moved folders you just have to insert "Folders/" before each folder path in the .folders file. But then YAM 2.9 will not be able to access the folders anymore. If you really need to switch between 2.8p1 and 2.9 then it might be a good idea to keep two versions of the .folders file and to make the correct version available ahead of running YAM. Or you use two completely different installations, each with its own mail directory.
Message JosDuchIt Sun, 01 Sep 2013 17:55:36 GMT Reply #395 to topic #107 - Nightly build (2.9dev) and folders http://yam.ch/discussion/message/395#message395 http://yam.ch/discussion/message/395#message395
The same or similar problem here:

I am using latest 2.9dev debug (yam.debug) as standard version and 2.8p1 as backup if i have problem.

This latest 2.9dev version moved my user folders to the new "folders" drawer.

When starting 2.8p1 it seems to recreate the same empty folders at the previous place (using th .folders info.

It is possible of course to redirect ea 2.8p1 user folder to the new place manually (using the folders menu). Probably then the .folders file will point to folders/myuserfolder and be unusable with the 2.9 dev version.

I don't really see what you solved, and if this is the same problem.

If not one might suggest to implement this modification in 2.8p1. Other easy solution?
Message
