YAM - Yet Another Mailer (#2) - Missing icon for attachments (#25) - Message List

Missing icon for attachments
 solved

I just noticed that there is supposed to be an icon at the bottom of the mail window for mail attachments. I saw this in the screenshots on the YAM website.

On my YAM 2.5, there is only a small square next to attachments, I can't click on this icon so when I try to use the context menu "Save selected" is ghosted.

I couldn't see anything missing when using SnoopDos.

Hi, sorry it wasn't clear to me; I thought that reply meant that OS3.1 icons should work.

Just to conclude my previous post, using a PNG icon results in the pseudo icon (text) so it seems like some component (Ambient or YAM) knows it's PNG but doesn't render it.

I'll send a feature request to support Ambient icon types.

    Thanks

    Hi

I tried both Amiga icons and PNG icons and both failed. I confirmed that YAM loaded def_project.info

I guess I should try looking at using the debug build to find out why.

It doesn't matter if you use Amiga icons or PNG icons as the problem Thore tried to explain to you is a problem in the icon.library of MorphOS. The MorphOS version of icon.library/DefIcons is unfortunately missing some important features which are the reason why you always see the def_project.info file instead of the icon you define for a certain file type. So please, instead of trying to find a bug in YAM you should better send a bug report / feature request to the MorphOS crew so that DefIcons will be updated and works as expected in future.

To be honest, with MorphOS and Ambient the problem is worse. Ambient only implements the functions of OS3.1's icon.library. All extensions done for OS3.5/3.9 are either not implemented at all or buggy. This can very easily be seen when Ambient provides its own ugly internal icon.

Glowicons are standard Amiga icons. "glow" just means that they have a specific optical style, but the file format is still the old one.

My def_project icon is a "Glowicon" and I am running MorphOS.

I'll look into using other icon types. Thanks

I you click in the attachment area while *not* being over an icon you should get a context menu to save all attachement.

YAM tries DefIcons first to determine an appropriate icon for the attachment. If that didn't work out then icons like ENV:sys/def_(picture|audio|html|text|ascii).info are tried next. If that still didn't succeed then ENV:sys/def_project.info will be used.

Maybe YAM cannot find an appropritate icon or it is some kind of NewIcon icon or a PNG icon, which you system cannot handle.

If you don't mind and the attachment doesn't contain any private data or sensible stuff, then you could open a bug report on YAM's bugtracker and add the raw mail file as an attachment to the report. Alternatively you can forward the mail to me and/or Jens in private.

If you want to investigate yourself, then download the debug version of YAM 2.5 from sf.net and create a "GUI" logfile. See YAM's FAQ for more information about debugging stuff.
