Earthlink Users: Fix for Mail Send Failures
 solved

I was recently experiencing random mail send failures, which increased in porportion to message size.

Earthlink changed smtp from port 25 to 587 on most of their systems (port 25 was still working, but not reliably) and changing the smtp port setting in YAM to 587 caused complete failure. The development team worked valiantly to help find the problem, but ultimately it was not a YAM bug.

The solution turned out to be a two step process.

(1) YAM: Config, TCP/IP: Set the SMTP port to 287

(2) OS4: Prefs/Internet Services: Delete: Ports 25 and 587 Add: Port 587, Type tcp, Name smtp, Alias mail

    Update:

    There was one more complication, my Belkin router was interrupting some message traffic! (Or maybe an interaction between the router, DSL modem and/or ISP.) Now I can restore .config back to something reasonable like

        TRBufferSize = 1024

    It was very difficult to diagnose because browsing and e-mail downloads seemed normal. I noticed better send behavior today after replacing the belkin router with a Linksys router.

      Thanks for this nice information and update JCC. Great to see users are contributing here to help others. Please keep up the good work. In addition, I would even propose that you transfer your observations to our online FAQ pages at http://faq.yam.ch/. There you can propose an own FAQ item which I can then enable publically so that others can search for that information more smoothly.
