Description

For some cases it would be really useful to have an additional entry in the Address Book which could be used for reply and forward E-Mails.

This entry could be called "reply name" or anything like that.

Some sender of E-mails (mostly Companies) have the E-Mail set like info@… without a name (or with the name "Info" or similar)

If i reply to such mail i get always anything like: "Hallo info@…" or "Hallo Info" at the top of the mail. (of course depending on the config in Reply/Forward section e.g. using %r Recipient: Name or %v Recipient: First name)

my request: It would be nice if YAM look into the Address Book if a reply name for this Address exists. if such entry exists use it and if not then use the names like now.

e.g. sender is info@… without a name and the new entry is anything like "Support Team" i would get as result: "Hallo Support Team..."

it could be done with a checkbox in the Reply/Forward section called: first try to use reply name (or anything like that) or some more entrys in the reply phrase popuplists.

maybe also the Alias entry from the Address Book could be used but that may clash with exists configs.

You don't really need anything changed in YAM to achieve this. Just add a "person" to your address book with the real name you want and YAM will resolve it and use that name when replying to that address.

Following your example, if you add info@… to your address book with a real name like "Support team", YAM will use that name when replying to emails coming from that address, unless of course you don't mention real names in the welcome/intro phrase in your replies in which case you didn't want to do this in the first place ;-)

Maybe you misunderstand me or our YAM Versions are working different.

If i get a Mail form info@… and the Sender set no Name for this Address and i set the the Definition String in Config-> Reply/Forward-> Default reply phrase-> Open like:

Hallo\n r=%r\n v=%v\n n=%n\n f=%f\n

(only a example to see all Names Options in one go)

I get as result:

Hallo
r=
v=
n=info@domain.com
f=info@domain.com

Same happen if i set an Alias and/or a Real name in the Adressbook for this Address.

So i change my request a little bit: It would be nice if we could get some options to use the Alias and/or Real name from the Adressbook in the above mentioned Config Item and of course also for the "Alternative reply phrase" and "Mailing list reply phrase".

  • Component changed from undefined to user interface
  • Reporter changed from opiopi@… to Opi
  • Status changed from new to pending

Can you please elaborate again what exactly should be changed. I really can't get the idea now and want to understand why you require it and how you think this because useful? Please include some more examples.
